Two Systems. One Right Answer for Your Home.

We install both major metal roofing systems. The right choice depends on your budget, location, and performance goals — our inspectors will walk you through both during your free estimate.

Premium System

Standing Seam Metal Roofing

The highest-performance metal roofing system available. Raised interlocking seams and concealed fasteners create a continuous watertight surface with zero exposed hardware. The industry standard for coastal Florida properties and the most wind-resistant residential roofing option available.

50–70 yr
Lifespan
160mph+

$18–30K
Typical cost
Concealed fasteners — no exposed screws
Continuous seam — no penetration leak points
Thermal expansion panels — no warping
Best for coastal and high-wind zones
Highest insurance discount potential
Value System

Corrugated & Exposed Fastener

A highly durable and more affordable metal roofing option. Corrugated panels use visible fasteners with neoprene washers to create a secure, weather-resistant surface. An excellent choice for budget-conscious homeowners who still want the longevity and strength of a metal roof without the premium price of standing seam.

40–50 yr
Lifespan
150mph

More affordable than standing seam
Wide range of profiles and colors
Florida Building Code compliant
Periodic fastener inspection recommended
Good for inland and moderate wind zones
Why metal in Florida

Why Metal Roofing Makes
More Sense in Florida

Florida’s climate punishes roofs more than almost anywhere else in the country. Metal is the only material that excels in every category Florida demands.

Hurricane Wind Resistance

Standing seam systems rated at 160mph+ exceed Florida Building Code requirements for every wind zone in the state. Metal roofing is the only residential material that can survive a direct hit from a major hurricane with minimal damage.

Energy Efficiency

Metal reflects solar radiation instead of absorbing it, keeping your attic and living spaces significantly cooler. Florida homeowners typically see 10–25% reductions in cooling costs after switching to metal — savings that accumulate over decades.

Salt Air & Corrosion Resistance

Florida’s coastal environment is brutal for standard roofing materials. Modern metal roofing systems use Galvalume or aluminum substrates with specialized coatings that resist salt air corrosion for the full lifespan of the roof.

Insurance Discount Potential

Many Florida insurance carriers offer premium reductions for metal roofing due to its superior impact and wind resistance. In some cases, the annual insurance savings alone can offset a significant portion of the upfront cost difference vs. shingles.

Outlasts Everything

Asphalt shingles last 15–25 years in Florida’s climate. A metal roof lasts 40–70 years — meaning a metal roof installed today may never need to be replaced again. Two or three shingle replacements over that same period would cost significantly more in total.

Low Maintenance

Metal roofing requires almost no ongoing maintenance compared to shingles. No granule loss, no cracking, no curling. Periodic inspections and gutter cleaning are all that’s needed to keep a metal roof performing at full capacity for decades.

Colors & finishes

Coatings That Work
in Florida’s Climate

Not all metal roof coatings perform equally in Florida. The combination of intense UV, salt air, and heat demands coatings engineered for this environment. We only specify products with documented Florida performance history.

Discuss Your Options

Kynar 500® / PVDF Coating

The premium coating standard for commercial and high-end residential metal roofing. Exceptional UV resistance, color retention, and chalk resistance over 30+ years. The best choice for Florida coastal environments.

SMP (Silicone-Modified Polyester)

A step below PVDF in longevity but significantly more affordable. Good UV and salt resistance for Florida’s inland and semi-coastal areas. Available in a wide range of colors.

Cool-Roof Certified Finishes

Energy Star-rated reflective finishes that maximize solar heat rejection. Ideal for maximizing energy savings and qualifying for utility rebates. Lighter colors provide the best reflectance.

Galvalume & Aluminum Substrates

The base metal matters as much as the coating. We specify Galvalume (steel + zinc/aluminum alloy) or full aluminum panels for coastal installations where corrosion resistance is critical.

How it works

The Metal Roof Installation
Process, Step by Step

From your first call to the final inspection — here’s what to expect.

1

Free Inspection & System Recommendation

A licensed inspector assesses your existing roof, home structure, and location. We’ll recommend the right system type — standing seam or corrugated — and the right coating for your wind zone and environment. Written estimate before we leave.

2

Material Selection & HOA Approval

We help you select the right profile, color, and coating. If your community has an HOA, we prepare the submittal package and can assist with the approval process — we’ve done this hundreds of times across Florida.

3

Permitting

We file all required permits with your city or county and coordinate the required inspections. Metal roofing in Florida requires both a roofing permit and a wind mitigation inspection. We handle all of it.

4

Installation

Full tear-off of existing roofing, deck inspection and repair, high-performance underlayment, and metal panel installation to manufacturer specifications and Florida Building Code. Most residential metal roof installations are completed in 2–4 days.

5

Wind Mitigation Report & Warranty

Upon completion we provide a wind mitigation report — the document your insurer needs to apply any applicable discount. Your 8-Year PeakShield workmanship warranty is issued at project close-out.

Common questions

Metal Roofing FAQs

How much does metal roofing cost in Florida?
Metal roofing in Florida typically costs between $14,000 and $30,000 for a standard residential home, depending on the system type, roof size, and complexity. Standing seam systems cost more than corrugated but offer greater longevity and wind resistance. PeakShield provides free same-day written estimates before any work begins.
How long does a metal roof last in Florida?
A properly installed metal roof in Florida lasts 40 to 70 years — two to four times longer than asphalt shingles. Metal is highly resistant to Florida’s heat, humidity, and hurricane-force winds, making it the longest-lasting roofing option available.
What wind speed can a metal roof withstand in Florida?
PeakShield installs metal roofing systems rated for 150mph or greater wind speeds, meeting or exceeding Florida Building Code requirements for high-velocity hurricane zones. Standing seam systems with concealed fasteners offer the highest wind resistance available in residential roofing.
Is metal roofing energy efficient in Florida?
Yes. Metal roofing reflects solar heat rather than absorbing it, which can reduce cooling costs by 10–25% in Florida’s hot climate. Choosing a lighter color or a cool-roof coating maximizes this benefit. Many Florida homeowners see measurable reductions in their energy bills after switching to metal.
Does metal roofing qualify for insurance discounts in Florida?
In many cases, yes. Florida insurance carriers often offer discounts for metal roofing due to its superior wind and impact resistance. Your specific discount depends on your carrier and county wind zone. PeakShield can provide the wind mitigation report your insurer needs to apply any available credits.
What is the difference between standing seam and corrugated metal roofing?
Standing seam metal roofing features concealed fasteners and raised seams that interlock to form a continuous watertight surface — the highest-performance option. Corrugated (or exposed fastener) metal is more affordable and still highly durable, but requires periodic fastener maintenance. PeakShield installs both systems and will recommend the right one for your home and budget.
