Why it matters

What Happens When
Florida Homes Have No Gutters

Florida’s rainfall isn’t gentle. It arrives fast, in volume, and often daily during summer. A home without properly sized gutters is quietly sustaining damage every time it rains.

Fascia & Soffit Rot

Water cascading off a roofline saturates the fascia board behind the gutter zone. Without gutters to redirect it, fascia rot is nearly inevitable in Florida’s humidity — and fascia replacement is expensive.

Foundation Erosion & Saturation

Concentrated runoff from a roofline without gutters pools against the foundation. Over time, this leads to soil erosion, foundation settling, and in severe cases, water intrusion into the home’s lower levels.

Landscaping Destruction

Uncontrolled roof runoff erodes mulch, washes out flower beds, and can damage irrigation systems. Florida’s steep afternoon storm intensity makes this worse than in nearly any other state.

Staining & Mold Growth

Water splashing off the ground against exterior walls accelerates mold and mildew growth — a particular concern in Florida’s humidity. Gutters eliminate this splash-back entirely.

Why Florida Needs More Gutter Than Most States

Florida’s rainfall intensity — not just annual volume — is what makes gutter sizing critical. A standard 5-inch gutter sized for North Carolina will overflow regularly in a Florida summer storm.

Gutter Systems for
Every Florida Home

All gutters are fabricated seamless on-site — no joints in the run except at corners and downspouts, eliminating the primary source of gutter leaks.

Seamless Aluminum

Most Popular

The standard for Florida residential gutters. Aluminum doesn’t rust — critical in Florida’s coastal salt-air environment — and is lightweight, strong, and available in dozens of colors to match any home exterior. Fabricated on-site in continuous runs.

Copper Gutters

Premium & Longest Lasting

The premium choice for Florida homes seeking a distinctive aesthetic and a 50-year lifespan. Copper develops a natural patina over time, transitioning from bright copper to a warm brown to the classic verdigris green. Soldered seams eliminate joints entirely for maximum leak protection.

Galvanized Steel

Heaviest Duty

Galvanized steel gutters are the strongest option available — ideal for commercial properties or homes with heavy debris loads or large overhanging trees. Not recommended for coastal homes within one mile of saltwater unless coated with corrosion-resistant paint every few years.

Gutter Guards for
Florida’s Year-Round Debris

Florida’s year-round growing season means gutters fill with debris faster than anywhere in the country. Oak leaves, palm fronds, pine needles, and seed pods keep accumulating every month, not just in fall.

Gutter guards eliminate the need for frequent cleaning and prevent the standing water and decomposing debris that shortens gutter lifespan.

Micro-Mesh Guards

The most effective option for Florida. Fine stainless steel mesh blocks leaves, pine needles, seed pods, and even shingle granules while allowing water to flow freely. Our recommended choice for most Florida homes.

Surface-Tension (Reverse Curve)

Water follows the curve into the gutter while debris falls away. Effective for large debris. Less effective against small pine needles or shingle granules, which are common in Florida.

Screen & Foam Inserts

Lower cost options that reduce cleaning frequency. Screens can be effective but may require more maintenance than micro-mesh. Foam inserts are not recommended in Florida due to mold growth in the humid climate.

Our recommendation for Florida: Micro-mesh gutter guards on 6-inch K-style aluminum gutters. This combination handles Florida’s rainfall intensity and debris volume better than any other system available.

Complete Drainage
System Services

Gutters are only one part of your home’s drainage system. PeakShield handles the complete picture.

Downspout Extensions & Routing

We route downspouts away from the foundation using underground extensions, pop-up emitters, and above-ground diverters to ensure water discharges well away from the home.

Gutter Repair & Rehanging

Sagging gutters, separated joints, and loose hangers repaired or replaced. If your gutters are structurally sound but pulling away from the fascia, rehanging is usually far more cost-effective than replacement.

Fascia Replacement

Rotted or damaged fascia boards replaced before new gutter installation. Gutters installed over damaged fascia will not hold correctly and will fail prematurely — we always address the substrate first.

Installation process

How We Install
Gutters in Florida

Every gutter installation starts with a drainage assessment — because the right gutter in the wrong location is still the wrong gutter.

1

Free Inspection & Drainage Assessment

We walk the roofline, assess existing drainage patterns, check fascia condition, and identify any problem areas where water is currently causing damage. You receive a written scope and estimate before we begin.

2

Fascia Assessment & Repair (If Needed)

We inspect all fascia boards for rot or damage before hanging any gutters. Damaged fascia is replaced first — gutters installed over compromised fascia will pull away prematurely, negating the entire installation.

3

On-Site Gutter Fabrication

Our truck-mounted fabrication equipment rolls seamless gutters on-site, cutting each run to the exact length of your roofline. No pre-cut sections, no field joints. The gutter arrives and goes up in one continuous piece per run.

4

Installation & Downspout Routing

Gutters are hung at the correct slope (1/4 inch per 10 feet toward the downspout) and secured with hidden hanger brackets rated for Florida wind loads. Downspouts are positioned and routed to discharge well away from the foundation.

5

Guard Installation & Final Check

If gutter guards are included, they’re installed per manufacturer specifications. We run a final water test to confirm proper drainage and slope, check all end caps and miters, and clean up the work area completely.

Common questions

Gutters & Drainage FAQs

Do I need gutters in Florida?
Yes. Florida averages 54 inches of rain per year — much of it falling in intense concentrated bursts. Without gutters, that water pours off the roofline directly against your foundation, erodes landscaping, saturates fascia boards, and can cause significant water intrusion over time. Gutters are an essential component of your home’s drainage system in Florida’s climate.
What size gutters do I need for Florida?
Florida’s heavy rainfall requires larger gutters than most of the country. We recommend 6-inch K-style gutters for most Florida homes — they handle significantly more water volume than standard 5-inch gutters. For homes with steep roofs, large roof sections, or in areas with particularly intense rainfall, we may recommend even larger fascia gutters or additional downspout placement.
How long do gutters last in Florida?
Seamless aluminum gutters typically last 20–30 years in Florida with proper maintenance. Copper gutters can last 50 years or more. Steel gutters are less common in Florida due to corrosion risk from coastal salt air. Regular cleaning — at minimum twice a year — significantly extends gutter lifespan by preventing the standing water and debris that cause premature deterioration.
Should I get gutter guards in Florida?
Gutter guards are highly recommended for Florida homes, particularly those near oak trees, palm trees, or pine trees. Florida’s year-round growing season means debris accumulates faster than in northern states. Micro-mesh gutter guards are the most effective option, blocking leaves, pine needles, and seed pods while allowing water to flow freely.
Can I install gutters at the same time as a new roof?
Yes, and we recommend it. Installing gutters as part of a roof replacement is the most efficient approach — the fascia and drip edge are already exposed, there’s no duplicate mobilization cost, and the completed system is properly integrated from the start. PeakShield coordinates gutter installation with every roof replacement project.
What is the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?
Seamless gutters are fabricated on-site from a continuous roll of material cut to the exact length of each run — no joints except at corners and downspouts. Sectional gutters are pre-cut and connected with joints sealed with caulk. Joints are the primary failure point in gutter systems: they separate over time, leak, and trap debris. Seamless gutters eliminate most joints and are the correct choice for Florida homes.
